Tips for Choosing First Job

Anyone wants to have a perfect job and to choose the best one we need to consider many things. The consideration about what kind of job that is right for you will come up when you are in the last year in college. That is the time to think about your first job and the future. Usually first stop is the stepping stone to next step and it is important to have a good start by choosing the right job. Here are some tips that may useful for you.

• Start to make a list of your interests and correlate them to the different jobs. Short the list and relate it to your physical, mental and educational ability. You can include the skills that you’ve gotten from training, part time job, practical experience and courses.

• Eliminate some of the lists that do not fit your job requirements. Imagine yourself in different job position and see how well you will encounter the problems. You need to make your mind move from a school setting to a company setting and put yourself in different conditions.

• It is good to make a list of the companies that you like to join to explore your knowledge and abilities. Do a small research about the company’s missions and visions, their hiring policies, products and services. It will help you to identify where your talent will be perfectly suited.

• Find out the requirements for entry-level position in the companies on your list. Check out the job descriptions to help preparing yourself. This job position maybe in the lower rank but you should concentrate on what exactly work will entail you after joining a company. On this position you can learn about patience, diligence, dedication and exemplary performance. For fresh graduates, it will be beneficial to learn the basic things of a company condition.

• Some companies offer standard benefits like annual paid vacation leaves, annual bonuses, sick leaves, pension plan and standard salary, health and medical insurance. Others offer more benefits like social perk such as car plans, travel allowance and club memberships. So, it will be better to look for the benefits and compensation to prepare yourself.

• Look for the information if the company has an internship program, so you can join it even you are still in college. This program will give you a great benefit because you will not only imagine but really have an experience to work in a corporate setting. Find out if the internship program could be a stepping stone to join to the company as an employee. This program also allows you to work on different department and it will bring more advantage because you can analyses where your true interests lie.

• But if the company doesn’t have an internship program, you can prepare a resume and send it to the company. And you can prepare for the interview, while waiting the company’s response.

We do understand that choosing first job is not an easy thing to do. There are many choices available and all of them have their own benefits. Take a lot of research to the companies and your interests, knowledge, abilities, skills and true interest to help you find the right first job.
